Scan Advice
Do I need a scan?
Scans can be a very useful tool for diagnosing musculoskeletal disorders, however they are only required under certain circumstances.

Following a serious injury or accident an X-ray would be advised on the affected area to check for fractures and dislocations. If there is persistent swelling days after the trauma this may also require an X-ray.

An MRI scan can be used for soft tissue injuries including cartilage and ligament damage, intervertebral disc pathology, tumours and infections. Your Osteopath will advise you whether you should seek an MRI scan and discuss with you the reasoning why. Persistent pain or severe nerve pain could also warrant an MRI scan, however most patients we see will not require a scan.

If you're unsure whether you should get a scan, book in for an appointment and your Osteopath will advise you further.
